About Me, Amy Young RYT 200 BLS
My love of yoga began when I watched my mother practice on the living room floor. A lovely, long-haired woman had a yoga show on a public access TV station back in 1980 and it was mesmerizing! I found yoga for myself as a 20-something to maintain flexibility of my younger gymnast days but not with great consistency. In my mid-30’s I became more consistent and dedicated after dealing with chronic pain for over a decade. A diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis and Sjorgren’s Syndrome in my mid 20’s and a replacement diagnosis of Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder and hypothyroidism in my 30’s, feeling good was a mental and physical challenge. Over time, and with the help of an excellent doctor, I found resilience, awareness, and acceptance through strength, mobility training and yoga.
I began a focused yoga practice in 2015 in fitness centers but with the covid shut down I found teachers online who broadened my practice and abilities. After studying under Julia Marie Lopez of Julia Marie: Yoga & Fitness and Tom Morrison of the Stability Mobility Method I began to follow a more integrated philosophy and practice of yoga and mobility training. Julia Marie Lopez combines yoga with strength and mobility while Tom Morrison’s Stability Mobility Method and Stability Builder programs come from an Olympic/Cross Fit background. I received my RYT 200 in May of 2024 studying under Therese Crewes RYT 500. I also carry liability insurance and maintain Basic Life Support/CPR/AED certifications.
My unique style blends vinyasa yoga with mobility, strength, and stability to support the body and joints. Each class will have flow yet finding spaces to build muscles, balance and functionality. Always ending in meditation, we will focus on body and breath awareness, peacefulness, and release of anxiety. I provide a safe environment; one that is challenging, welcoming regardless of physical ability, approachable and encouraging.
While passionate about helping people through yoga, I am also passionate about helping people in my full-time career as Radiologic Technologist (X-ray tech for short). My knowledge in anatomy, positioning, physiology, and observance of the body has greatly strengthened my teaching and I look forward to sharing that with my students.
If you can’t find me at the studio or at work, then look for me in the woods! Hiking! Climbing on rocks! Playing in rivers! Playing in waterfalls! Never quit playing! Or I will be wandering around trying to identify plants and trees!
My larger goal is to eventually have a rescue farm with a farm stay option. And teach yoga in an outside environment year around! Even in winter! It will be awesome! Right now, my cats and partner have all my love but within a few years, they will be joined by dogs, chickens, ducks, cows, donkeys and goats!!!
